Under the slogan

“Fidelity to the Martyrs’ Oath”

To commemorate National Martyrs’ Day, which will take place on February 18, 2026, the Directorate of Tourism and Handicrafts organized a rich and varied program to celebrate this historic day, under the slogan “In Homage to the Martyrs’ Oath,” which ran from February 10 to 18, 2026. The activities included the following:
  1. Organization of a handicrafts and trades exhibition in coordination with the Chamber of Handicrafts and Trades, at the Handicrafts and Trades Centers (Ben Souna and Chettia), throughout the week, from Sunday, February 15, 2026, to Sunday, February 19, 2026. Artisans also participated in the traditional industries exhibition organized for this occasion at the Martyr Kamli Taher College, in the Sonelgaz district, Oued-Sly municipality.
  2. The Discover Cast tourism podcast has launched an episode dedicated to the Directorate of Tourism and Handicrafts of the Chlef province. This episode was marked by a significant moment: the Director of Tourism received Mr. Chihani El Hadj, a veteran of the struggle for freedom. Mr. El Hadj delivered a poignant and personal account of a chapter in the liberation struggle of the Fourth Historical Wilaya, evoking the heroism of the martyrs and the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. This moving testimony testifies to the fidelity to national memory and the pride in its glorious history. Through this initiative, the Directorate reaffirms its unwavering commitment to preserving national memory and integrating it into the historical tourist routes of the Chlef province. This objective is achieved by highlighting the sites of the liberation revolution, showcasing its symbols, and transforming historical spaces into educational and awareness centers that underscore the profound history of the struggle in the region. The Directorate is also working to integrate this dimension into thematic tourism itineraries by including sites and monuments related to the armed struggle in structured tourism packages that reflect the identity of the Fourth Historical Wilaya. This contributes to establishing a culture of memorial tourism and transmitting the message of the martyrs to future generations.

  3. The fourth issue of the national memory magazine, published by the Directorate of Tourism and Handicrafts of the Wilaya of Chlef, was distributed to all local authorities, active organizations, and various social actors as a contribution to strengthening national values on this day. The magazine included several articles (biographies of some martyrs and freedom fighters, as well as highlighting certain colonial massacres and including some memorial tourism itineraries).

  4. A theoretical and practical training workshop on the art of zellige was organized on February 10, 11, and 12, 2026, by the Directorate of Tourism and Handicrafts of the Chlef Province. This workshop was part of the recommendations of the National Symposium on Algerian Zellige, held on December 23, 24, and 25, 2025, in collaboration with the Abdelmadjid Meziane National Public Museum of Chlef, and implemented the agreement between the tourism and traditional industries sector and the vocational training and education sector. The Director of Tourism and Handicrafts inaugurated the workshop in the presence of the Director of the Abdelmadjid Meziane National Public Museum, the Director of the Preserved Sectors of the Ténès Annex, the Director of Vocational Training in Ténès, and representatives from the Directorate of Culture and Arts. It brought together trainees, artisans, architects, and heritage conservators. International students, including university students interested in Algerian heritage, received theoretical and practical training. They were able to carry out the various stages of zellige tile making: shaping, cutting, coloring, and firing. These stages were supervised by a zellige craftsman from Tissemsilt, specializing in the art. The workshop concluded with an awards ceremony for the participants, the supervising craftsman, and all those who contributed to its success, under the watchful eye of the local media.

  6. The creation of a Joint Interest Grouping Association (AGIC), bringing together tourism professionals and travel agencies, has been announced. The inaugural meeting was held on February 15, 2026. This association aims to unify the efforts of tourism operators within a structured framework, thereby strengthening coordination and cooperation and contributing to the development and promotion of tourism throughout the wilaya (province).
